A rat will be rewarded after he presses the bar three times.

Schedules of Reinforcement

Ratio Schedules mean positive reinforcement is delivered based on a number of the desired behaviors. When the reinforcement must be emitted three times before reinforcement is delivered, this schedule is a Fixed Ratio -3 Schedule (FR-3). Fixed Ratio schedules are characterized by post reinforcement pauses.

Examples of Fixed Ratio Schedules

  1. A rat will be rewarded after he presses the bar three times.
  2. A student will receive a free homework pass after completing five homework assignments with at least a grade of 90%.
